Exploring Grok: Inside Elon Musk’s Revolutionary ChatGPT Rival

Elon Musk announced the debut of Grok, a new huge language generative AI model inspired by “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” and designed to “answer almost anything and, far more difficult, even suggest what questions to ask!”

It will be integrated into X, formerly known as Twitter, and is intended to respond to questions with a sense of comedy. In fact, the business recommends that you avoid using Grok if you dislike humour.

It is capable of answering “spicy questions” that most other AI models refuse, thanks to real-time information about the world provided by the X platform. The company promises that this four-month-old generative AI model with two months of training will be improved in the following days.

What does the name ‘Grok’ mean?

While it may appear to be gibberish at first glance, we cannot discard it as such. The Cambridge Dictionary defines the term as “to comprehend something.”

A brief online search reveals that American writer Robert A. Heinlein created the word for his sci-fi novel Stranger in a Strange Land. The book uses a Martian phrase for “to drink”. However, it now means “understand something or someone completely – to merge, blend, and lose identity in a group experience.”

Interestingly, Musk, a sci-fi lover and Mars enthusiast, named xAI’s chatbot to help it learn as much as possible from its encounters.

What is the purpose of Grok AI?

Grok, according to xAI, was intended to help humans understand and learn. It is driven by Grok-1 LLM, which was created over a four-month timeframe. The prototype Grok-0 was trained with 33 billion parameters, and it is reported to be as powerful as Meta’s LLaMA 2, which can handle 70 billion parameters.

Where is Grok AI available?

X Premium+ Service

xAI will first be available to users who pay $16 per month to subscribe to the X Premium+ service. Grok offers a “unique and fundamental advantage,” according to the scientists, because it was trained on real-time data on the X platform.

How does xAI’s Grok differ from other AI generative tools?

Musk noted in an X post that Grok has real-time access to information via the X platform, which distinguishes it from existing language models.

Recently, Musk talked about the features of his AI-powered robot. “The fact that Grok can get information in real time through the platform is a huge advantage over other models.” Also, it’s built on and loves sarcasm. In an X post, he said, “I have no idea who could have guided it this way.”

He uploaded a picture that asked the AI tool to give a step-by-step look at how to make cocaine. Unfortunately, it looks like the robot has been taught to avoid tough questions. Even though it was funny and sarcastic, it made it clear that doing illegal things isn’t okay.

ChatGPT, on the other hand, must be prompted to provide amusing responses. Furthermore, its earlier versions did not include real-time internet connectivity. Later versions, on the other hand, may search the entire internet.

Grok vs ChatGPT

Grok has a considerable edge over the free version of ChatGPT in terms of access to real-time information. Because the standard ChatGPT only covers information until January 2022, it is not only unaware of Grok, but also of Musk’s purchase of Twitter/X.

Elon Musk compared its AI bot to ChatGPT on X. However, as several people pointed out in comments, , GPT4 with Bing and ChatGPT Plus have access to real-time information and correctly answer queries.

Google Bard vs. Grok

Google Bard and xAI’s both have access to real-time data. Yet, Bard has a benefit because it has access to Google’s massive knowledge store. Grok, on the other hand, has real-time data access via the X social media platform.

When we asked Bard to compare itself to Grok, we got the following response:

xAI’s Grok: How to use It?

xAI’s system will be available to all X Premium users after it has completed the early beta phase. X just launched two subscription plans: a $16 monthly Premium tier with ad-free access and a $3 monthly basic tier.

“How refreshing,” a user said after requesting access from the tech billionaire. Elon, please give me access to this.” Musk responded, “Ask, and you shall receive.”

Who is behind xAI, other than Musk?

xAI was founded in July by a team with origins in Google’s DeepMind, Microsoft, and other renowned AI research organizations. While X and xAI operate independently, they work closely together, with xAI also collaborating with Tesla and other companies.

Future plans for xAI and Grok

xAI will continue to prioritize continuous improvement as they seek human feedback to improve this testing phase AI Bot performance and ensure its AI skills are always improving.

It can learn from real-world events, optimize its answers, and make better decisions in situations when training data may be limited.

Given Musk’s track record, xAI, with its unique features and engineering capabilities, will be an intriguing addition to the field of AI chatbots.
